The System Cohort 4
Capturing The System’s mentorship onboarding day in Melbourne.
About the project
Every month, The System onboards the latest cohort to go through their Mentorship program onboarding - a program designed to help its members achieve incredible financial goals while being supported by those who are on the same journey to reach their own financial goals.
In order to help people know what the day looks like for future members and to encourage others to join, we were engaged to make a film that would be sent directly to other members of their community. We needed to capture what the day looked and felt like, some of the content that was delivered while also making sure not to give everything away, as well as turn a day of sitting in a board room to feel like the engaging and door opening day it was - a hard task for a film. We all know that sometimes things are better in person than they turn out on film. We also were working in a tight space the whole day, meaning we had to do our best not to be a distraction to those who were there to learn.
The other challenge was the notice - they previously had someone else lined up to do the work, but they had to pull out at the last minute - the shoot was on a Friday and I was engaged to do the work on Tuesday night. Nevertheless, I got straight into pre-production, returning to them quickly with a plan and a vision that we honed over the next two days prior to production.
We arrived early to their office to set up, capturing interviews with the founders prior to the day. We then filmed as flies on the wall, observing the members joining us with cameras set up to record every workshop, as well as us two floating on cameras to capture details. At the end, we captured interviews with the new cohort members, reflecting on the day, before we filmed a podcast and called it a night.
Then came the edit, where everything came together beautifully. Because of the work in pre-production, we were able to plan what we needed to capture and how it would come together prior to filming, meaning that things went very smoothly in the edit. What resulted was an engaging, cinematic experience for the viewer, one that not only was informative, but reflected The System in the very best light as a premium company who are serious about what they do.
